Story Behind The Song
I wrote this during a serene year I spent in a rural town west of Boston, MA. The previous few years had been very busy, playing in the rock band Myriad Creatures while teaching piano and working other jobs as well. So I was ready for some down time, and found some solace that year, living in an old Shaker farm house.
Song Description
A brief, slow, poignant piano chordal intro. Piano picks up, flowing through a high beautiful descending chord progression. Tenor enters, then soprano answers, and they continue an intermingling call and response, as the piano chord progression repeats twice, an octave lower. The duet of the tenor and soprano intensifies into a undulating climax of the soprano soaring high, propelled by the tenor and the restless piano, eventually winding down to a warm final release.
