Serge Côté / composer
Serge Côté was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Serge was thumping out beats from his high chair, constantly banging on pots and pans, until his mother, somewhat irritated, finally enrolled him for piano lessons at age nine. By high school, Serge was ready to start his own rock band. He saved up his pennies and bought himself a drum kit, but having no luck finding a decent keyboardist, he soon went back to the keyboard.
After high school in 1982, Serge felt a formal education was in order and studied Arts and Music at the University of Ottawa. After his third year of studies Serge was offered a keyboardist/composer position with Warner Records' recording artist "One 2 One". It was an opportunity he couldn't pass up and he left school to begin his musical career. "One 2 One" brought Serge a close working relationship with producer Leslie Howe and the two worked together on a number of projects including "Alanis Morrissette's" first two albums. Also, during those years, Serge was a key member of the bands "Shake the Ghost" and "Joe Gatineau & the Mont-Bleu Rockers", both winners of the Ottawa "ShareCHEZ 106" contests in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
In 1995, Serge co-founded "Atomic Audio", an audio post production facility were he went on to compose for films, documentaries, television series, animated series, radio/television commercials and industrial videos. His credits include series and specials for CBC, CTV, YTV, The Comedy Network, TVOntario, Family TreeHouse, TFO, TMN, City TV, OLN, The Discovery Channel and many more. He has composed over 500 episodes of music for TV series such as "Kevin Spencer" (2005 Gemini Award nomination for best score for an animated series), "A World of Wonders" (2008 and 2009 Gemini Award nominations for best score), "Leaps and Bounds", "Benjamin Bear" and more recently "RollBots"(2009 Gemini Award nomination for best score for an animated series).
Serge is currently composing for the third season of the children's travel series "A World of Wonders" and the French dramatic comedy "Meteo +" (two Prix Gémeaux nominations 2009 for best music theme and music score), and has several projects on the horizon, including a new 3-D animated series.
