You cannot write about something until you feel the situation. Only then can you judge the lyrics.
Hey Rhone. I think you and I have spoken on the phone before. Thanks for review of my song Ten Years Ago Today. I'm also pretty dialed into Music Row as I'm there every other month and have about 1/2 dozen songs published now, so I think I know a little about Nashville too. The score you gave my song was by far the lowest score that song has received in a year and a half and eleven reviews. In fact, its average score was 46.1 and it was #4 in the overall Broadjam country charts until your review. Not to say that your not entitled to your opinion, but I have to disagree with you about lyrics being more important than melody. You've got it backwards. Melody grabs the listener, lyrics keep their interest. I've got plenty of songs in my catalog with GREAT lyrics (thanks mostly to my regular co-writer) but none of them so far have scored higher with listeners than this song. I'll agree that the lyrics are not world-class on this song, but it has heartfelt emotion that resonates with listeners, and I think that's more important to a country song than just about anything else.
Sounds like we all got the same review. The "dialed in" part anyways. I lived in Nashville for six years and hosted a TV show called "Writers Night". I hung out with Grammy winning producers and award winning writers. Granted, that was in the early 80's, but I've still got a few phone numbers that I'm "dialed into" also!
Thanks for the review of my song. I can see that you're "dialed into Music Row" and that you have a keen insight for that "powerful lyrical content" that you felt my song lacked. I just listened to one of yours: "Red on my neck, gun in my rack , hey, hey, hmm, hmmm." With all due respect, you need to take hard look at your self and your own work. This is not a slam b/c of your review, but people like you need to realize a grading system when you give a song less than 50%. That's ridiculous, especially from just another novice.
Well Said!
Just took a listen to Stone Country. He's got a point Rhone!
Thanks for your review of Today, I Took Away Your Dream. That was a very old song - not to say it's a bad song, just old.(I've been writing since 1991 and have several independent cuts; also have a friend in Nashville who is a hit songwriter). I appreciate your comments and am completely aware of what you're saying, but I write because I love writing ... I have some really good songs and some really bad songs, like every writer out there. Good luck with your endeavors.
Thanks for the review, agree 100%! That song was done for a Kenny Roger's pitch & I was thinking ol' time Kenny from the '80's (outdated!) I did catch up on all that more already w/new songs ;) Keep in touch!

Hey Gents, Thanks for the nice review of my song, "'57 Ragtop Chevrolet". I wrote it about my parents who, back in the 40's and 50's and 60's had nothing but cool convertibles. The song comes from my CD, "Modern Progress". Stop by my site and listen to more if you like... Best, Chet Nichols Inductee - The Kansas Music Hall Of Fame
Review music that you KNOW about. You country dudes are always reviewing hip-hop & R&B music. i wonder why? Wish you could do it too right? No, well why are you reviewing this genre of music? Stick to what you KNOW 'country', country. I will never review a country song. Why? I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT MATTER. Just like you don't know jack about R&B or Pop music. Slow down son, stay in ya place. By the way I reviewed your material. In other words you should be nice to everyone here, your songs ALL of them are NOT up to per, so chill out fix your dirty sounding songs then holla back ok country. Your made my day. You funny, thanks.
thanks for reviewing 'i need a smoke' and the kind words....i'm no longer a smoker, but did for 30 years...and i feel the pain of those that do, hence the song.....i'll check out some of your songs
hey guys, thanks for the review on my song "She Don't Mind". Yeah, I like that one, too! Hank
i can't do this dance anymore--thanks for the review--cheers--joe
Claude . . .I dig your writing. I particularly liked the duet sung by Devin Belle and Mike. We're using Nashville Demo Studios this next week with Devin singing. If all works out we'll have her and Mike sing a beautifull wedding song duet as well. I'm a BMI Published songwriter with multiple songs placed on artists CD's and in film. I may be in Costa Rica soon. My Broadjam site is Rhone Scott Music or just Rhone Scott if you want to check out my writing. rhonescottmusic@yahoo.com by email if you want to reach me. I would live to get together in CR when I come down Waters Rhone
