This also rocks my world: 'Is Anyone Home?' has been included on another listener's Spotify playlist, amid songs by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin, baby! Check out 'Women Who Rock' here! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7 JTPMFQbOIS0O6Hrb7vnqL

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the GREAT "All-5's" review of my song, "Lonely Woman". Indeed, it is of the 60's and 70's vintage. I have had several people say they felt it was like listening to Led Zeppelin played by one-guy with a guitar. DOn't know about that.

Anyway, the version you heard was a "live version" recorded at Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City, Missouri USA in 1971.

There is a cleaner studio version of "Lonely Woman" on my album, "Beetles Are Coming". SO, if you like this song, you will very much enjoy the whole album.

It is posted at my BJ site (As an MP3 file) or at my site (http://www.chetnichols.net 1 ) was HI-DEF WAV files.

If you do, let me know which songs you like.

Best,

Chet Nichols

Hi Chet. I was blown away by the song - and especially when I got to the end and found out when it was performed and by whom. No wonder it felt 'real', in all the best senses that applies to 'real music'. And I'm not surprised to learn it was a live take - the energy was unmistakable. Thanks for the info about your album and website - I'll definitely check those out and let you know my favourites. Stunning lyrics on Lonely Woman, btw. I just loved everything about it. So grateful to e-meet you here and to learn about you and your music, and lookingf forward to learning and hearing more. All the best, Jamie

You're amazing, Warren. Stay humble my friend! I am in California visiting my 94 year old mom. Did I already tell you that? Here is a poem I wrote for her:

EpicDermis

Her skin is a sculpture
A study in textures
A wonder to stroke.
I gaze at this fragile fabric
That mirrors 94 years
Of living and loving.
This was baby skin once.
It was teenage skin
Tanned at the beach
Burned, peeled, restored
A million times over.
Freckled, this skin
Felt the electricity
Of my father's touch
When they first met
On a blind date ages ago.
Now he's gone
But the mother of his 9 children
Lives on
And her splotted skin still speaks.
Smoothed with love and lotion
Painted blotches
BrownRedPurpleTanGoldBlack
A Map!
Ancient Artwork
And underneath this frail thin layer
Blood still flows
Through tired veins
That refuse to quit.
My hand rests on the arm
That cradled me as a child
Worked to sustain me
Spanked and pained me
Guided, trained me
Now who can blame me
For the reverence I hold
In my heart, in my hand?
This human leather
Cherished, crinkled
Worn and wrinkled
This is my Mother
O God, how I love her!
I am flesh of her flesh
Skin of her skin
Amen and amen.

Hi Kate! I was trying to find a way to email you, but can only find this, so thank you SO much for the amazing review of 'Fathers and Daughters'. I'm delighted it resonated with you, and you were very kind about my voice; it is normally a little husky, but I was battling unexpected hayfever that day in the studio, so getting every note spot on was a challenge. Plus, I do get a blt emotional singing that one; didn't write it until around 7 years after my father died, in fact, so no: it wasn't performed at his funeral. But thank you so much again for listening to it so thoroughly. I'm on my laptop today, so will come back and listen to your work when on my desktop (much better speakers!). All the best to you in the meantime, Jamie

Hi Fred. Thank you SO much for your review of 'Wake Up in New York' - means more than you know, given your standard of musicianship and especially as you're also from the Bronx! 'Into You' is a stunner - really rips it up in all the right places. All the best to you, and thanks so much again.

Thank you for the nice words on "On Any Given LA Nite"! Very appreciated. Glad you like the simplicity. I would love every song to have a full production opportunity but it's all about the money to do so. Thank you so much!

I can't even say enough about this (The Back Streets). Heard it only once, read the Song Description, and I was in tears (from someone who doesn't let them flow enough) and then teared my way through the lyrics. What an amazing job on this one!

Jeepers - thank you so, so much, Rena. This little song came out of personal loss, and because I choke in a studio setting, I just recorded it 'raw' in my living room one afternoon as a coping mechanism, really. It still needs polishing to my mind (but whose work doesn't to them?), but to have your response is... more reward than I could hope for. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen = and comment. All the best to you, Jamie

Jamie - I felt kind of funny saying what I said about the vocals on "Is Anyone Home" and debated whether I should say it and ultimately decided I should be honest. It's such a good song.

I listened to a few of your other songs and was touched by "The Back Streets". The lyrics are very powerful. A cousin I grew up with that was more like a brother died in the Lockerbie plane crash many years ago. For over a year I'd be walking wherever doing whatever I was doing and I'd see something that reminded me of him and I'd start crying. I wrote a song called "Too Soon"in remembrance of him.

Hi Marv, I really did appreciate your honesty - it's what I'm here for. I hadn't recorded in a studio for over 20 years when I did Is Anyone Home? and Don't Tell Me, and I was both terrified and exhausted, even if elated to be doing it again. So I do know exactly what you're saying.
Thank you so much for your comments about The Back Streets - I'd sorry for the reasons it touches you, but again, you're 'spot on' - I wrote that after losing my best friend after an awful illness, and years later I still don't know where to put myself at times. Ironically, I also knew two people on Pan Am 103 - not well, but I had interviewed them only a couple of weeks before for a magazine article: two young Americans, on their way home. I'm so sorry about your cousin.
I will definitely come back to your page to check out your music properly this weekend - am on a beast of a book project (editing) at the moment - but just wanted to say thank you so much again for listening and just taking the time to comment. I appreciate it so much more than you know. Peace to you, and all the best, Jamie

Hi Marv, Just to say thank you so much for the very fair review of 'Is Anyone Home?'. You're right: I'm not the most confident of vocalists; I do perform, but tend to choke in the studio rather than on stage, so I think your review is spot on. Thanks for taking the time to listen and best wishes to you and for your music. Jamie

Hi, thanks for the review of 'Red Clouds Diner'. The reason for the long intro and overall feel of the song is because it comes from the concept album 'Eagle' , to be honest I didn't really think about the songs being listened to in isolation. Thanks again and good luck.

Good luck to you, too, John. And thanks for the explanation. It's always different hearing 'part' of a work rather than the whole concept, so that explains a lot. Enjoyed your work.
