Hi, Jim. I did some looking around and found your video of "Sunset," a very well done heartbreaking song of how love endures, and with the grand feel of country living! Your melody and story line grows and becomes more majestic with each verse. No wonder the judges in the contests you entered were so positively drawn to your songcraft. A very nice job, sir! Thank you for stopping by to my page, too, and for the terrific comments and stars for "Just Another Weekend" and "Ride the Wave." It's always a pleasure to share songs and thoughts with you! John
Enjoyed Far from home again and Just another Weekend! Song comes alive when the warm bass comes in, and your vocalist has a happy go lucky sound! The whole song has a friendly carribean influence! So simple and effective melody. Nice one John! 5 stars no bother! Ride the wave would be a great background song for a surfing movie! They need songs like this fir big sporting events! Drums at the beginning set the tone for a solid, hard hitting song! Again, five stars well earned young man! What are you onto now? I have a song on video here called, "Sunset" where the Lyric has no chorus, but is a story in the mould of Pete Seger, Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard! (Not that I am in their league of course) Look it up! I have not released it as yet, but need it somewhere I can get a link to share it. Again, enjoy! Good to talk!
Thanks Warren for the stars for, "One Night Stand" Is this the first time you have heard it?
Jim, you did a lovely job with "Where the Mountains Reach the Sky." Melody has a sweeping feel of the country, your story line has joy and conviction of having won your heart's desire, and it works with the melody like a marriage. You chose a terrific female vocal. Did you play all those instruments? They're played perfectly. Come by for a visit. I have a new song up, too. This time with a folk influence. I found a wonderful female vocalist from Buenos Aires! John
Just love the "Balladeer"! Heard it over a year ago I think, In a competition I was in. Great to find it again. Superb touching vocals, lovely melody and chorus! Obviously written from the heart and saluting all who have gone before; whose legacy goes on! My favourite is Leonard from your Video! I will enjoy going through your other numbers! Deserves the five stars! Or more!
Hey Jim! Thanks for the feedback. I got The Balladeer to Chris Stapleton's people and they liked the tune. It got all the way to UMG's table listen and they ultimately passed on it. Glad to hear that somebody out there is listening. How's your music going? - Mark Patterson PS: Leonard Cohen is still one of my biggest influences....
Hi Tim, just latched on to your, Conch Republic Dream. Can imagine it played in an open top full blast in sunshine! There's a great accompanying music Run in there which I love! It's my musical hook in this! Would be great as the Outro! But what do I know?
Hey thanks Jim!
Really liked "Missing You" and "Holy Fire"! There's no doubting the Hook there! You produce nice music! Which of your songs do you reckon I should hear?
Too many to count bed. Like the rhythm, beat and melody which runs through it! Continuity music!
Really liked "same old dreams". So simple and it builds so well. Good vocals.
Thanks Jim, much appreciated! A rare occasion when I actually sang one of my own song! Cheers, Al
Really liked "same old dreams". So simple and it builds so well. Good vocals too!
Hey Jim--- once again my page will not let me "reply" to comments so this fresh comment is a reply to yours.... Thanks for the kind words -- I appreciate your recognition of "real" instruments - I have a digital keyboard to get piano and organ sounds otherwise everything is real, and played and sung by me, except on a few songs where I give credit to other players... I listened to your Drift Away-- I think I like it best so far... believe it or not the first thing that struck me was how perfectly the tempo was selected... the vocal melody more staccato and complex than your other stuff, and the vocal arrangement is beautiful. As far as One Night Stand I already reviewed that in the Review process a couple weeks ago so I remember it, nice song as well. Keep up the good work!
Susie make a choice, is a well put together song. Great to hear real sounds recorded. Guitar solo is ideal and your key changes enliven the sound. The singer, (is it you) puts it across well. My good lady, who is Susan, enjoyed it immensely. I usually select songs with few plays since they are new ones but it was on your recommendation! I heard as scornflakes before but enjoyed it again. It has that Pink Panther sound! Can't beat real instruments! I reckon you are Off The Wall and musically innovative. Appreciate you listening to my songs and stars. They help move my songs up the Charts here! Yes, they are emotional! I'll recommend two more! "One Night Stand" and "Drift Away" ( tribute to my sister, and really touching) Where Does your band play? 10/10 Barry!
Hi Jim- Listened to "Promise" "Dancing" and "Jane"... your style is very emotional and the soundscapes support the feeling.... good stuff.. very relatable... good hook on "Dancing". Keep creating!
Hey Jim-- I got your nice comment but for some reason I cannot "reply" to comments-- they don't go through.... So I am writing you a fresh comment to say "Thanks" and that I will listen to those songs of yours you suggest.... If you want to get more of what I feel is my clever side listen to Suzie Make A Choice and Scornflakes...... All the best to you!
"We Just Used to Drive", is a fun number! Good swing and beat from the off! Clear vocals? Your "One Soul World" is also catchy with a good hook! Sounds like you have fun performing them! More Rock than Folk I think! Your music is refreshing? Five stars well deserved for both. Do you have specific songs you think I should hear? From mine, I recommend, "The Promise", "I See Her Dancing", "Dear Jane" (Tim) although I have others which are rated also!
Hi Lyfe, five stars out the blue from you for my Instrumental, "Outlander" much appreciated. I thought it would be an ideal match for "Outlander" the Hit Series with music by Bear McCreary. Absolutely no way could I contact him! You are Ace, thanks!
Hi Barry, really appreciate your Frank and comprehensive Review of my "One Night Stand"! I do not expect 100% so it is a great help to hear your constructive ideas. Personally I do not like the fact we have to conform to Nashville dictate, but I suppose it must be done if our craft is to be accepted! Wonder if I could alter it to include the hook more as you allude to! Thanks again.
Hey I review songs with humility because who the heck am I but another opinion.... and as far as formulas, I think mentioning it in a review is a form of commiserating... something we all have to consider especially for country style.... good luck, keep creating!
Nice one Lorna, "How about Love" Not a lengthy Lyric but fairly strong! Love your vocals, sung with heart and feeling! A definite Album song!
"Jody newest version" is a touching song well performed. Very nice Lyric! I like a story in my lyrics so appreciated it. Pretty strong Hook, so very listenable! Well done Jay!
Hi John, "Far from Home" has an infectious beat! Kind of song I'd enjoy playing full bung on a drive whilst tapping the steering wheel! Singer is ideal! He seems to be enjoying it with ease! Another classy number from the maestro! Chorus is catchy but I think I could go another verse and chorus!
Hi, Jim. Thank you very much! That's a great compliment as you are definitely the maestro yourself! "Drift Away" is a beautiful song I always remember. Another verse and chorus? I may have to do an extended version someday. Warren would like a shorter intro, which is a good idea. Actually a singles, album cut, and extended versions could work for every song...it looks like that's what the entertainers out there do. Clay Collins is the vocalist. I tried getting him to do it two years ago but he went on sabbatical. He does great harmonies that he arranges. Find him at https://www.fiverr.com/claycollins/ give-you-killer-vocals-and-keys-on- your-track, $45, £36.
Listened to your "Chanson Sans Paroles" and can see why it achieved in GASC! Def Worth the five stars! My song, "I See Her Dancing" achieved Finalist in the GASC also! Much appreciated your stars for my "Drift Away"(ensemble).
Thanks for the listen and the stars, Jim! Yeah, my GASC experience gave me much needed encouragement at a time when I very much needed it. Considering your positive experience, well, that kinda makes us bros! :) All the best to you, sir. Keep up the good work! 'Rex' aka Tony
Susan, Is my, "I See Her Dancing" a song you would consider singing? I think your velvet vocals would do it justice!
Hi Jim - First off...I hope you know I didn't sing "Heart of the Flame"? That's a MALE vocalist I hired. Second, I have decided recently that I'm not singing anyone else's songs, and I'm not doing co-writes. There have been too many frustrations, and the results haven't been worth my efforts. Thanks, anyway, Jim! Susan
👍
I will say that I've had 10 co-writers, and we keep in touch as friends, so there are benefits to co-writing. Some good songs were produced, of course. My singing voice only works for a small percentage of songs, so results are not guaranteed :)
I understand! We are free to move forward with our music any way we wish! I respect your choices Susan!
Nice of you to say, Jim. Good luck to you and your music!
Your "Heart Of The Flame" is a really lovely song. Tender Lyrics, Absolutely love your Superb vocals and refreshing melody! Guitar is just perfect! Had to hear it again, and again! You are a Supreme Artist with real quality. You should be snapped up! 5 stars again! Please have a listen to my latest, "I See Her Dancing" (Tim). It achieved Finalist last month in The Great American Song Contest! Well done again friend!
Hi, Jim, and thank you! I just signed "Heart of the Flame" exclusively with a publisher who has gotten 3 of my songs on The Young and the Restless. Hopefully, that agency will be able to place more of the songs I have signed with them, including, "Heart...". Thanks for the compliments! "Snapped up" seems to be quite a stretch as there are over 40,000 new songs on Spotify each day. I just write and produce my songs as I see fit, and hope they make a mark somewhere, eventually. If you're not a performing artist with great songs and fans, or a marketing team, odds are slim for any big success. I've come to that realization, but I still enjoy what I'm doing. Congrats. on the Finalist position! Susan
Splendid work Susan, lovely job on Heart of the Flame! Keep on plugging! Warren
Thanks, Warren - appreciated! Susan
Really nice, "I Got Love Wrong"! It is a strong song with excellent vocals. Sounds a little like the Everly brothers! Maybe an extra instrument Organ, Violin or Cello to accompany the piano solo to accentuate the lovely melody! You really are versatile, Lindsay!
Hello Jim thank you for your kind comments.
"The Birds" is a very, very accomplished song! Great vocals, guitar and melody as well as superb lyrics which tell the story! Easy five stars!
Blue grass was a treat, but far too short! It was just getting started Bob! Your versatile! Blue for you was a different swing! All good though!
Thanks Jim....It was my first bluegrass....
Well, it worked! Look forward to the next full song!
Thanks for the stars for my, "Reach the Sky" Amy! I like a good story in my Lyrics.
Just heard "In A Perfect World"! In your usual inimitable style! Again top marks! I reckon you are a Poet with a Romantic leaning! Easy on the senses and Deeply in your zone! Well done William! How's life doing?
Jim my friend how are you, thank you for the listen and the stars , its funny on broadjam some weeks are stagnet and the next thing your no #1 in 3 , categories. A poet with a romantic leaning ahh yes... me alright ... a few months ago I was sick out of love , sick of the love songs , wanted a new style and a good friend who I really respect said no never change its who you are , and bang just like that I was back and wrote a good few new songs in my style, it's who we are like our fingerprints , there is a Jim Aitken style, Beatles style, Paul Simon style, I guess the trick is to a better version of ourselves every time, I just needed reminding. Thanks Jim for the contact , hope your keeping well .
Your "Love in a Song" is a cracker William! The superb violin fairly heightens it at the right moment! Another classic, but I still love "Jupiter"! It is in my head! Easy five stars!
She looks like fun, is a good number with a positive beat. I tried to see the lyrics but you have put the lyrics to "Music heals me" there by mistake. Never the less, a jaunty song! I connect with your lyrics! They Say write what you know! You have done that with Music heals Me! That's what I try to do! I will listen to more! Looking at your talk with Randall, I agree that my songs selected fir opps have gone nowhere! Awaiting a couple of companies to get in touch but that has be3n we3ks so I'm not holding my breath! I thought my song was selected for Starbucks Ad. So I waited fir a month then contacted the co. (Alexander Johnson) and he said Starbucks did not think it fitted! We are paying for individuals to possibly like a song but it is not their call! There are probably two or three other stages it must pass before selection. Scandalous! I do not waste my money now! I'm using up my free entry's!
