Thanks for a nice review and score on my song! Appreciated it! Steve Dafoe
No Problem
Thanks for the review. Appreciate the comment.
Ok... So lately, I've been getting a lot of bites regarding licensing... Only problem is, after spending over a grand in shopping, the last thing I'm interested in is filling out metadata forms and what not. I' mean come on... My job is to produce music. Isn't the publisher's job to label and promote it? I paid you money to listen to my work... Being you selected it, aren't you more qualified to define, label, and promote it? Cause thats your job right? Publisher... and all that jazz? I wanna make music... Submit it... Forget about it. I really AM NOT interested in excessive paperwork after spending a grand putting it out there. Just let me sign the dotted line and get back to what I do best... Which would be production!!! Not paperwork!!! Just saying... Can I get a hells yes? N
AGREE!!!!!!!!!:)
I agree with Protilious---HELLS YES!
I agree, I hate the forms. Recently Blame It on the Summertime was offered inclusion in a licensing "catalog". I saw the requirements to fill out all the forms and such and I still haven't done it. That was November. I think that's the Publisher's job, it can take 2-3 days to do it, that's a lot to ask for a MAYBE deal. ;)!!! DeDe
I agree, as well. My perception of a publisher's responsiblity is such things; if not, then why the fees and royalties? How easy is it to be one's own publisher? Think I'll look on ASCAP.....
the "placement providers" / "licensing catalogs" are the worst when it comes to metadata forms, requesting writers provide genre classifications and "Hot Button Words". It's an all too common "industry practice" they all support.
Good to know, maybe we should have our song metadata saved so that we can fill it out more easily for each song...so far I haven't had to worry about it much-fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be! Thanks for the info. I'm kinda new at this. dd
Good idea DeDe!
I Thought once you are selected the information you provide to Broadjam is enough?
Hi FMB, Really like your "Love So Strong" cut; nice electronica dance groove. I'm certainly no expert on the question at hand, at all, however, "yes", in part to your question; the information that is submitted with a music file, from which the artist has entered, is accompanied with the file, and information shared. BJ is a liason, if you will, between artist and those people searching for music to publish, in that they provide a forum for opportunities which to submit. However, BJ has nothing to do with whatever publishing contracts one may be offered. That's a whole other "can of worms", and independent of BJ. I'm trying to figure it all out as well, so good question.....!
Thanks a lot Cyndi CorKran for the reply. I'm really glad you like "Love So Strong" As far as Broadjam, I must say I have learned and I keep learning new things from the members and staff on this site. Glad some members speak their mind.
You will find support here, from peers and fellow musicians, and a forum for discussion and opinions; we all are learning something each new day. All the best to you!
Thank you! All the best to you!
i agree more as much real big troubles with publishers and subpublisher such as musicdistributers. offering there work and somehow some of them trying to get on your rights. calling it administerings meaning controlling your earnings. specially tunecore and so on ... just cancelled with several companies. this is very right producing composings etc. should be payed right away from the publisher or sub publisher. at the end once you give it out of your hand. might be used somewhere .
I won't sign exclusive contracts and if the try to get in on my rights I can't be held responsible for the profanities that will come out of my mouth. N
The licensing business is becoming like the old record business. They want more rights because they know a lot of independent Musician's need there connects. Film/TV is where the money is right now. With so many artist pitching there music these companies have a great advantage on which music to choose. So now they Can dictate what they want from you if you choose their opportunity.
Pick the right opportunity with the right agreement that fits you.
I'm very fortunate... I don't "need" a publisher to validate my work. Nor do I need to be licensed to continue to produce... It's just a perk at this point when I see the work go someplace. More money for my children's college you know? N
That's Great.

Thanks for the review! It is a little intentionally dated. I will upload some new Dance tracks soon and would like your critique. I like your Bio.
Thanks for the review! Very good critique, only one thing...The super mario effect was suppose to be a little off.I guess I didn't pull it off well. :-(
I didn't know it was supposed to be that way...I thought it was cool though, I was like where'd he get that from
lol
Did you play that out and put effects on it or it was already like that?
It was a preprogrammed sound I manipulated to play different. Two of the sounds on that track I manipulated, the rest is all hand played.

Thank you very much! :) That's a great idea! I believe it too, that it's possible to put more or less kind of music to "Call In Sick", even pop. Thomas
