If there is ever such a thing as a musical detour, the members of Decoy all decided to leave their existing paths! Once traveling in opposite directions, each member inevitably found one another on the same track heading the same direction! Vocalist and guitar player Chris Ranallo had been performing primarily as a solo artist with dreams of finding the perfect rhythm section, but always found difficulty finding musicians who shared his same passion for song writing and collaborating!
"It was like having half of a picture painted in my head but not having all the colors I needed to finish it and get in on paper" says Ranallo in regards to co-writing.
Micah Wagner and Brian Herrin had those same frustrations and had been performing as a two-man cover duo around the Midwest! Both were songwriters looking to get a band together.
"It got to the point where we built up such a great following and had a nice sound, but no one even know we had our own material" says Wagner. These frustrations led to an informal introduction between the three through a mutual friend.
"Chris showed up to one of our two-man gigs and sat in for a few songs and everything just gelled" says Herrin. " People at the show thought we'd been rehearsing together for months and had no idea it was just an impromptu jam between the three of us."
After this meeting, the three went on to form the group Decoy and began writing songs together! During the process, recording engineer Casey Finn caught a whiff of their talent and pushed for them to record an album! The band is currently in the studio and plans on releasing their debut album in April '09! " We can't wait to get our material out there and know this is just the beginning of a long musical journey," says Wagner. The band is already touring and is quickly acquiring a huge fan base!!
