Hi Ken, long time no hear! Still writing?
Hi there. Still writing a little, but not so much these days to be honest. You?
Hey Roy, I hope all is well since I last saw you. I was wondering how I get my songs on the BJ charts. Thanks, Sam
Sam, Top 10s are determined by the four different review mechanisms, unique song streams, download sales, etc. We look at all the appropriate data and calculate the charts......Thanks for the good question.....Roy To everyone: Check out Sam's music. He is one of my favs....and he is 17. Extremely talented. http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.php?artistID=81305 1
Just played some of Sam's tracks. Wow, very impressive.
Thanks again Roy!
Hi David. Just checking out the competition for Brit Writers ;-) Kick Start is a real catchy song. Can't get it out of my head. Well done.
Hi Ken. My chin dropped when I saw your name in the BWA finalists list ;-) I know you won the UKSC with "What Love Is" last year and it's a fabulous song and a worthy winner. So thanks for the kind comment. My 2nd time as a finalist in the BWA and 3rd overall recently so I guess I must be doing something right :)
Hi again - Thanks for the positive comments about 'What Love Is'. So looks like we'll be meeting up on 1 Dec in London; should be a fun night. Looking forward to it. All the best - Ken
Ken, congratulations on your BWA award on Saturday and the way you handle the lyrics on the socially difficult subjects you have chosen.
David - I really enjoyed meeting up with you last weekend. Sorry for late reply. Busy week here. Listened to your CD. Better quality than listening on-line. I'll look out for the new song you mentioned. All the best.
Ken, would love to know what you are up to these days, please contact me on my private email or leave a note here otherwise :)
Hi David. Great to hear from you and sorry for late reply. I'm doing OK. I'm still writing odds and ends, but find it difficult to finish things off. I have managed to arrange a video for What Love Is and am still hoping to release it as a charity single, but getting the finishing touches to the video is taking a long time. Got it done for free by a local media student, so as I'm not paying I can't complain! How's things with you?
Can't find your email address by the way. Mine is kenbee@live.co.uk
Ken, will make contact via email from dihardwick...
Noticed you reviewed my song: HE AIN'T LOVING ME. Thanks for the great review. I appreciate it. Sylvia
Your welcome. And congrats on getting I'll Show Him into the top 10
Hi Ken Just listened to 'Goodbye should never be in Springtime', Beautiful.
Wow, thanks Dave. Glad you liked it.
Thank you Ken for you review on my song "Hi Heels" I really appreciate all! :) Sincerely, Lori
Hi Ken - Thanks for your insightful review of my song 'Goodbye should never be in springtime'. I like the tips on your bio. I think the same pretty much, but maybe go for first or second time for accessibility - Ken
Thanks Sylvia for your review of 'Brother, brother'. Glad you liked it.
I like all your songs. Good luck with them.
Hi Vinnie - Thanks for your review of my song 'Who taught you to cry". :-)
Hi again Sylvia. Just a quick thank-you for reviewing my song 'What Love Is'. Glad you liked it.
I loved it. Good luck with all your songs.
Hi Troy - Thanks for the positive review of 'Brother, brother' :-)
Hi Jordan. Thanks for reviewing 'Brother, brother'. Glad you liked it. I'll pass on comments on vocals to my son, Martin who sings on the track. :-)
No problem! It was well done piece. :) I'd appreciate hearing any opinions you have on my music as well, every review helps! Hope you do good in your career.
Just had a quick listen on Soundcloud. Interesting. I'm classically trained, but don't listen to much classics these days, so I found it quite refreshing. The videogame projects are my favourites, probably because of the sonic variety. The Altar Call instrumental is the best for me in terms of best overall sound. It has an authentic sounding arrangement and production. The Bloodlust suite is really good as a composition, very descriptive and atmospheric. The production is good, although I think the higher string sounds let it down a little. I'd try and get better string programme to improve that if money permits. Look forward to hearing the more jazz-oriented stuff when it's ready.
Wow, thanks! :) Yeah, the Altar Code Instrumental theme is one that was professionally edited by one of my friends. I've recently bought the software he used, and will hopefully give the same treatment to the other pieces I have on there. I'm working on some jazz stuff now actually, but it probably won't be done for a little while.
Hi. Thanks for the review of What Love Is. Glad you liked it. I'd love to get some air play! Maybe one day.
hi Jeff. Thanks for your review of 'Who taught you to cry'. The vocalist on the track is my son, Martin Luke Brown, so I'll pass on the comments. Useful comments about the key change and overall sound, thanks.
You're welcome Ken --good tune! The typo "think and aggressive accompaniment to balance it" should have been "thick and..."
Ah yes, I knew something wasn't quite right there; that makes sense. I wanted to start quite and build up throughout, but your comment has got me thinking. Maybe start with a big intro, then bring it down for verse 1 and build from there.
Hi Denise - Thanks for the review of What Love Is :-)
Ken, what a detailed, correct, wonderful review of you gave of my song HE AIN'T LOVING ME. I'm the lyricist, so I can't afford to develop the music to the next level as you suggested; and you were right. But hope it can make it the way it is. Maybe some artist will pick it up. Thanks again and good luck with your publishing. I'm most appreciative. Sylvia
Thank-you Sylvia. I'm glad it was useful. All the best - Ken
And by coincidence, I've just seen the review you did of my song "Who taught you to cry". Many thanks for the positive comments. And you're right to pick up that the lyric leaves some question marks for the listener. I'm aware I'm breaking a rule there, but nevertheless I did it deliberately, because I feel it's the kind of song that can mean different things to different people. So I've left it open to interpretation. Hopefully the mood and feel make up for it. Thanks again.
It's a great song. Sometimes being general is better. Who knows in this crazy music business. It was my pleasure.
thank you so much for your reiview of "Breakout" just listened to What love is - a really good song & to the point! Good luck onfinding a good Publisher. You'll find one. Penny Lea
Cheers Penny. All the best to you too.
Ken. Thank you for your excellent and comprehensive review of 'All Tomorrows Begin with You'. That feedback is invaluable. I cannot take credit for the vocal obviously, that was down to my friend Mandy Leonard. By the way I got the idea for the intro and outro from Led Zeppelin's 'Achiles Last Stand', which I've always loved. Best wishes. David .
Hi Dave. Congrats on 'Hero Time' getting into Europe top 10. Great song, I love it.
Glad you like it Ken - and thnaks for bothering to post a comment saying so!
Just listened to your new song, Continental Drift. Aware you just write the lyrics, but you obviously have a good team around you, as this is strong lyrically and musically and with a great sounding vocal and production. Do you write the lyrics first, or do you write them to the music? However you do it, it seems to be working well.
Thanks for the comments Ken. I usually don't mind whether it's music or lyrics first, but mostly I write to music (and na-na-nas!). But this is an odd one. It was written to a melody, but was adapted almost word for word (little bit of re-engineering) from a lyric I'd already finished. So a bit of a hybrid. Don't mind how it happens as long as the result sounds good! Cheers.
Hi Pete. Thanks for your generous comments on "Goodbye should never be in springtime". Very encouraging. By the way, it's not me singing, that's my son Martin Luke Brown. He's writing his own stuff now. If you want to hear more of his voice, just search on YouTube. I haven't done a lot of collaborative work; I tend to be a slow writer, so I always feel I may end up frustrating other parties involved. But I'm open to the idea. I'm just having a very quick listen to your songs. Lots of variety in terms of musical style and lyrical themes. Will listen more when I get a bit more time.
Ken. Thanks for your review of Dark Garden. Your review is the best so far I have got. I have written this song when I was a teenager. Now I am decades older. Because my native language is not english, the lyrics might include confusions and contradictions. I have to check the points you mentioned. The song was recorded at StudioPros in LA by professional musicians, including vocals.
Well, it's impressive as English isn't your first language. Keep at it.
Ken. Thank you for your review of Christmas Rock'n'Roll. You're quite right that the song isn't exactly breaking new ground. It was written and recorded to give the listener a nostalgic ambience of Christmas and the production was made with a deliberate 1970s feel. Regards. David
Thanks Ken for the review of "All Night Movie". It's one of my home studioefforts .You will find some pro demos on my site.
Thank you for your review of Set me free and your comments.
No problem. Hope the comments are useful for you.
yes thanks Set me free has been in top ten charts for 6 weeks so really happy
Hi Ken Thank you for your review of 'Just Strollin', much appreciated, it's also nice to be reviewed by someone from the UK. All the best with your own music
Thanks David. I'm quite new on here, so good to hear from you. All the best.
