BIOGRAPHY / MARY LOU

Giorgia Bovolenta was born on June 19, 1993, in Ivrea, in the Piedmont region of Italy. From a very young age, she developed a strong passion for music, partly inspired by her uncle Gentile Bovolenta, guitarist for the band Perez Prado. Listening to his cassette recordings and piano sessions sparked her early love for music.

At just 13 years old, Giorgia began studying opera singing with teacher Lalitha Bellino, who introduced her to the great classics of contemporary Italian music and musicals. These genres proved fundamental to her artistic development, providing a solid foundation and long-lasting inspiration.

At the age of 19, together with her best friend and double bass player Veronica Perego, she launched the musical project "Two Artemisia", a Jazz Pop Cabaret duo made up of voice and double bass. The project had an experimental and artistic nature: the two musicians performed in the streets of various cities, on trains, benches, and lakes, bringing music outside traditional contexts. They achieved a significant milestone by playing around 90 concerts in bars and clubs. In 2016, they participated in the Ivrea Jazz Festival and won the Premio In Rosa, an award dedicated to women in music.

Meanwhile, Giorgia started exploring new musical genres, developing a deep interest in country rock, southern rock, and blues. In 2015, she began writing her first songs, increasingly drawn to the role of singer-songwriter. To date, she has written over 50 songs in both Italian and English, which she keeps stored away, waiting for the right moment to release them.

In 2016, she took part as a singer in the Italian national tribute to Fabrizio De André, titled "Faber per Sempre." On this occasion, she performed in Bratislava, at Slovak National Radio, in front of the Italian embassy. It was one of the most important moments of her career, shared with Pier Michelatti, the historic bassist of De André.

In 2019, her career took another significant turn with a collaboration with Ken Stringfellow, musician known for his work with R.E.M., The Posies, and Big Star. Giorgia organized several shows for him in Italy, marking the beginning of a long-term artistic partnership. Ken wanted her by his side as a backing vocalist and mandolin player for various concerts, both in theaters and on small tours across Puglia and Northern Italy.

In 2023, Ken invited her to join a commemorative project for the 30th anniversary of his album "Frosting on the Beater," involving artists from around the world. The proceeds from the project, available on Bandcamp under the title Positive Signs, were donated to charity.

Also in 2019, Giorgia released her first official album, produced by KAJ, an Italian producer with over 3 million Spotify streams. The lead single, "Out of My Mind," was accompanied by an official music video and showcased an American-inspired production style.

In 2020, she took part in the production of the song "Niña Mala" with the band Regione Trucco, singing in Italian for the first time on a pop track.

After two years of creative rest and time dedicated to family life, Giorgia returned to the music scene with a new project: ALABAMAS, a female rock duo formed with guitarist Desirée Lucino. The project is characterized by strong energy and a contemporary sound.

At the same time, Giorgia also founded a new recording project titled The Red Stones, with the goal of releasing all the songs she had written over the years. The project includes both cover songs and original tracks, such as "Many Mountains" and "Hello Mr. Batman," all written by Giorgia herself. In just twelve months, the project has surpassed 1.5 million views on YouTube and 100,000 streams on Spotify, demonstrating impressive audience engagement and success.

Currently, Giorgia is working on new singles with The Red Stones, aiming to complete an EP. She is also collaborating with Eddy Mattei, a renowned composer and producer known for his work with Zucchero Fornaciari. The project is being released under Alpha Music Independent Publishing and is promoted internationally, including being featured in the Sony Music Publishing USA official playlist. Her songs are currently playing on American radio and gaining increasing recognition worldwide.
