CHRISTOPHER BATTLES, performing new music with a classic acoustic singer/songwriter sound.
Deeply enriched by his classical and jazz studies, singer/songwriter Christopher Battles has developed a unique sound that clearly distinguishes him from all others in the music industry.
In 2012 Christopher recorded and released his "Miles Upon Miles EP" while spending the 2011 - 2012 school year substitute teaching in New York City. Battles' music captures the human experience which is translated through sound directly into the heart of his audiences. His songs are so perfectly arranged that they leave a profound impact on those who have the privilege of listening to his music. Each stroke of a chord is equally matched by his incredible vocals. This is a story of one man's life and has taken the audience by the hand giving them a glimpse of who he truly is.
Full Bio
Christopher Battles is an original songwriter with a coffee house vibe and a soulful folk music heart. A New York troubadour with an acoustic guitar he is also a classically trained musician, jazz drummer, and schoolteacher. Exploring the spaces between singer/songwriter and rock band sounds, Christopher incorporates flairs of jazz and folk music to craft new music with sincere appreciation for the power of lyrics and storytelling.
Raised by baby boomers in the 90's, his music reflects a time when the Dave Matthews Band, Rusted Root, and Pearl Jam CDs were on shuffle with Eric Clapton, James Taylor, and Paul Simon. His songs are a tasteful infusion of these classic and 90's rock with the essence of John Mayer and Jason Mraz.
Christopher's music is a traveled earthy and worldly cultivation. This Upstate New York native is as much at home on the shores of Lake Ontario and in the Adirondack Mountains as he is on the road, having toured for more than a decade as a multitalented musician. With songs such as Miles Upon Miles, a story about a cycling journey, he is an adroit storyteller, lyricist, and composer.
A product of music in our public schools, Christopher's presence on the singer/songwriter stage has been long in the making. In grade school he was a drummer, singer, and actor, even playing a few cover tunes for variety shows. In 2006 he began studying music education as a percussionist at the Crane School of Music. Three years later he began writing music when summer camp students challenged him to create an original song. By the time he graduated Suma Cum Laude he had written a dozen songs while practicing in the dorm basement.
Christopher has played residencies at Brooklyn's Knitting Factory and PATH Café with showcases at Singer Songwriter Cape May and on NCPR as a featured audio blogger. The summer of 2012 brought his debut release, Miles Upon Miles EP, launched at the Rockwood Music Hall in June.
