Vic Varney, recently selected as one of theTop Ten Artists of 2004 in NPR's "All Song Considered" critics and listeners polls, was the founder of groundbreaking Athens band the Method Actors. He has played throughout Europe and the U.S., recently concentrating on a solo career, recording extensively and playing venues such as the Knitting Factory, the Fez and the Living Room (New York). Varney's shows are intimate and real, mixing Brazilian rhythms, jazzy chords with "moving inner voices " (NEW YORK TIMES) and the occasional stark blues. His work has been described as "songwriting perfected" by REM's Peter Buck, as well as "Nick Drake with a sense of humor" (VILLAGE VOICE) and "having traces of Dylan and Jobim" (NASHVILLE SOUND). Be that as it may, his style is absolutely his own--a literate, funny, soulful, bluesy, breezy, cinematic, wonderfully unlikely, totally original blend--that works.
