Tony Mangra was born in Albouystown, Guyana but grew up in the village of Port Mourant on the Courentyne. He left Guyana in 1982, migrating to the USA. He joined the US Army in 1983 and is currently still serving. Guyana is located in South America but culturally it is a part of the West Indies. Tony grew up in the countryside of Guyana listening to music from India, rock steady (what has now evolved to what the world knows as reggae), calypso and Guyanese folk music. Some of his influences are Bob Marley, The Tradewinds and The Mighty Sparrow to name a few. Tony migrated to the United States in October of 1982 and brought with him a life long dream of singing and recording music. He is a songwriter and plays the guitar. His songs range from love ballads to songs about his roots. Because of his early influences, his music is melodic with a rich island flavor. He recorded his first CD, Simple Plan, in Kingston, Jamaica in 1991. This CD has received airplay in Guyana, USA, Asia and Europ
