Story Behind The Song
A friend with a blues band challenged me to write a song about Nutria Rats. I treated it like a bit of a science project, gathering lots of facts to squeeze in all I could in a fun sassy blues groove.
Song Description
A bit of an educational blues song about Nutria Rats, how the got to Louisiana & why, how they are destroying habitat and overpopulating, and starting to endanger the safety of pets and infrastructure

Lyrics
Down in Louisiana, them alligators get real fat
they ain't half as scary, as them nasty nutria rats
Talkin' bout nutria rats, big fat furry nutria rats
You better keep a leash on your dog, and an eye on your kitty cats
watchin' for them nutria rats
They used to trap them for the fur, some still eat the meat
when it comes to recreating, their numbers can't be beat
Talkin' bout nutria rats, big fat furry nutria rats
You better keep a leash on your dog, and an eye on your kitty cats
watchin' for them nutria rats
(Break)
They brought them up to Louisiana, from down around Argentina
They eat the roots up out the levees, There ain't a rat any meaner
Talkin' bout nutria rats, big fat furry nutria rats
You better keep a leash on your dog, and an eye on your kitty cats
watchin' for them nutria rats
(Break)
