West Virginia

Story Behind The Song

A few years ago my son and I accompanied our church youth group on a mission trip to southern West Virginia coal country. In the valley where we stayed, freight trains laden with remnants of the region?s mineral wealth would suddenly rumble out of a tunnel sending echoes up and down the ?hollers? and would then just as suddenly disappear into another tunnel. When the coal is gone, all is quiet. Left behind are people close to their land. A seam of fierce pride has not been removed from the hills. Neither has an equally strong measure of hospitality.

Song Description

A lullaby from heavy machinery, hauling the results of a hard day?s work. If someone is running the trains at night, then the world will still be there in the morning.
