Story Behind The Song
SHINY DEW
This song was originally written by Anton Lagzdins, in 1984. A true Lincolnshire Yellow Belly, born at Elsham Airfield, near Brigg, England, on the snowy 28th of December 1954, in a Nissen hut which was part of a resettlement village built on the less used airfield after the second world war for displaced persons.
It tells the story of the then modern day farmer and farm worker, and the farm worker of today, nothing changes.
The picture is that anyone involved in agriculture lives the romantic and idyllic life, the smell of fresh made hay, roses around the doorway, a stream at the bottom of the garden and warm glowing fires in the hearth at night.
Not so is the call, it is hard work and often un-rewarded, not only is the pay very low but the prospects are also very poor.
This song portrays the hard working, badly done to farm worker, working for a large land owner receiving poor pay, and in some cases the farmer, (that is one with a small farm and a very tight budget not knowing where his next meal or pay cheque will come from).
Listening to the chorus and the music it is easy to imagine living the chocolate box lid lifestyle, lazing away the balmy summer days.
Words and music by Anton R. Lagzdins.

Lyrics
Shiny Dew
Time at 4/4 moderate
E B7
1) People think my life is clean and easy,
E
that all's provided and the rest is free,
B7
if every picture turned out just as painted,
E
everything would be alright with me.
2) But cold winds blow the fields of love and labour,
diesel fumes and dust are all I breathe,
my just reward is merely an existence
although the mouths are countless that I feed.
CHORUS
E A E
Give me green, give me blue,
B7
Starlit skies, moonlight too,
E A
Give me trees and, give me water,
B7 E
Every morning, shiny dew.
3) I don't envy all the fruits that people savour,
Just one or two would fill the need in me.
The simple things in life are all I ask for,
that doesn't mean to say that I receive.
Lead break
Repeat Chorus.
Repeat last line and finish.
