Story Behind The Song
I was building some acoustical panels for my studio and was using a Black and Decker power drill my father had used until his death. I stopped drilling and looked down at the drill and saw it in my father's hand and it sort of sent me on a trip down memo
Song Description
This is avery rough demo which needs production, banjo, etc. but it is a true song about my father...although we weren't "close" in the ideal sort of way, his influence on me was tremendous, and continues to be.

Lyrics
My Father's Tools
I watched my father while he used
his hammer, saw and other tools
to build a house and make the home
where I grew up and he grew old.
He knew how to do so many things.
It seemed he knew 'most everything.
If it needed to be done then he knew how and
he taught me and I know now.
Now he's gone and here I stand
The tool he used here in my hand
Overcome with memories, I have to stop a while...
And think about life and how it flows along
And on and on it goes
From my father to me and to my children, too,
Working with my father's tools.
He built our house, helped build our town,
helped build the country all around.
He taught me I should carry on
And learn to live and teach my sons.
Now he's gone and here I stand
The tool he used here in my hand
Overcome with memories, I have to stop a while
To think about life and how it flows along
And on and on it goes
From my father to me and to my children, too
Working with my father's tools.
He built a dream and built a life
Fell in love and took a wife,
They tried their best to give to me
The reasons for the rules.
It didn`t seem I learned back then
But what I know I owe to them,
I pray dear Lord please let him see me
Working with my father`s tools.
...I'm thinkin' about life and how it flows along
And on and on it goes,
From my father to me and to my children, too,
Working with my father's tools.
