Story Behind The Song
Walking down the Strand in central London - saw a young woman rushing across the street looking at her watch - nothing else mattered but to get to that important meeting, and we've all been there. The immediacy of that point in time takes us over while 'in the grand scheme of things' it is probably not very important. Inspired me....
And I have been a 'mad hatter'!
Song Description
The Mad Hatter is someone who is working in central London (or I guess any major capital city) and who is your typical commuter rushing from the tube etc .
The lyrics are partly based upon what I experienced gong into London when I commuted - I visualised the journey then penned it into the lyrics for the start.
And then it's about the present day immediacy of the pressure we are under against the future long term (Big Ben's turned to rust) - I guess it;s about really trying to appreciate what is truly important in life. Giving things context...

Lyrics
The Mad Hatters? Song
From Euston down the Northern Line
To Charing Cross - I?m just on time?
Tottenham Court Road on my back
The sparks are flying on the track
I?m really in a desperate rush
I?ve got important pens to push
Used to see some pigeons there
Now they?re all dead in Trafalgar Square
Absurdity, absurdity, absurdity, absurdity
Don?t stop for him he?ll want a hand
Another cold night on the Strand
I guess those tiles must be rough
I may be late - my life is tough
See the Oxford Circus clown
Armani suit - designer frown
?Bejewelled Beauty? in Bond Street
Wiping that gum, stiletto-ed feet
Absurdity, absurdity, absurdity, absurdity
After the Party
London Bridge has fallen
Carrion crows are calling
Big Ben's turned to rust
The Cheshire cat stopped smiling
?Cos the Queen of Hearts was crying
Their rhymes all turned to lust
And they're all Mad Hatters
As their cockleshell shatters
And they don't know who to trust
Ring a ring of roses
A pocketful of posers
Their lives all turn to dust.....
Absurdity, absurdity
Absurdity, absurdity
