Story Behind The Song
Was working out at the Nashville YMCA and noticed a man with a prosthetic leg also working out as if nothing was wrong. Also that same week met a woman at a writer's conference who was wheelchair bound, and she also acted as if this was normal. I was moved in the fact that we all have our own handicaps that we sometimes complain about but don't work through.

Lyrics
Working in the gym one night , right in front of me. C7+ Am7
His metal leg shone bright from the ground up to his knee. C7+ Am7
But he was walking straight, with a steady gait, F, walk down
So confident and naturally. Am F
He had an air about him, you could see it in his face, Dm Dm7 G
But for that grace, but for that grace go I. C Em
Why was it he, and why not me? F G
It's not my place, not my place to know why, C Em
So carry on each day, and you will find your way F Fm
To grace. C
She smiled and asked me for some help opening the door.
I did and then she wheeled her chair right cross the floor.
Her strong hands made the wheels go round, circling faster on the ground.
Her head up like she was 6 foot four.
She had that air about her, you could see it in her face.
But for that grace, but for that grace go I.
Why was it she, and why not me?
It's not my place, not my place to know why,
So carry on each day, and you will find your way
To grace.
Everybody has a little story of what is so wrong with their life. Em F
But nobody can feel sorry if they don't try to make it right.Em F G
But for that grace, but for that grace go I.
Why is it me? Oh now I see.
It's not my place, not my place to know why,
So carry on each day, and you will find your way
To grace.
