Lyrics
Snow Day
By Matthew Price ©? 2005
Sifting drifting to the ground
O so lightly touching down
Step outside, not a sound.
A blanket covers the whole town.
Little faces stuck to glass
Watching all the cars not pass.
Watching, waiting, wishing, hoping
That today the schools won?t open
Hours pass, the snow keeps falling
Kids snowmanning and snowballing
Of all ages, shapes, and sizes
Dressed up in their warm disguises
Eventually all the die-hard players
Soak their insulating layers
Trudge home through the white expanse
To remove their soggy pants
A pile of drenched clothes is heaping
Hot chocolate?s ready and tea is steeping.
While outside the walk is shoveled,
Inside by the fire they?re huddled
A load of clothes goes to the dryer
Others hang beside the fire
Cause once we all have thawed clear through,
We?ll be ready for round two.
As night approaches kids are praying
Please don?t let this turn to rain.
Unknown to us, across town,
A big Doug Fir is falling down.
Then all at once, in our house,
The lights flicker and then go out.
Parents creep across the floor
Searching for the candle drawer.
The room alit with tiny flames
We gather round to play board games.
Smiling hour after hour.
Life is better without power.
Finally time to say goodnight,
We walk the hall by candlelight.
I slide into my icy sheets.
My dad gets down upon his knees.
Dad I hope you like us here
Cause it could take days, or weeks, or years,
To fix the power and clear the snow
So again to school we can go.
My dad now fades from my sight,
As my eyes close to dreams of white.
Oh Lord God, please hear me pray
And give us just one more snow day.
