Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song following the suicide of former Split Enz/Crowded House drummer Paul Hester. Being such a big fan of his and of the groups, I felt as though I knew him well, but when this tragedy occurred I felt sad that I, and probably thousands of others, had no idea what he was truly experiencing in his life.
Song Description
A poignant and melodic song expressing the real yet disconnected paing felt following the suicide of a loved celebrity. Mandolin, keyboards, and ethereal harmonies add a bittersweet beauty to this song.

Lyrics
Standing there
alone in a crowded place
Photograph--a photograph
of your face
A picture of your face
A bearer of light they say
A juggler in the park
But no one was with you when
the carnival lights went dark
The lights went dark
And though I didn't know you
I wish you in a better place
Were you tired, were you longing
for the joy that life erased?
For those of us on this side
the music is all we hear
Create your own picture book
and all of the pain disappears
It all disappears
