Story Behind The Song
Like most of my songs, I really don't know where this one originated. For me writing a song is a bit like acting. I get an idea, maybe just a line, and I go into character.I imagine I am the person telling the story along with the emotion.
Song Description
Most folks have fantasies about being someone or somewhere they are not. Maybe working in a pursuit far different than the one in which they are presently immersed. I don't think that's unusual. In this instance its obvious the person fantasizes about being out of and away from the concrete jungle. "Riding' out beneath the gold and blue."

Lyrics
Cowboy
Words & Music Jim Lee
I always thought that I could be a cowboy
Ridin' out beneath the gold and blue
If I could walk away I tell you now boy
That is just exactly what I'd do
My bedroll tied up high behind my saddle
Spurs that jingle jangle as I ride
And as I watch the wind caress the mesa
I would feel so very satisfied
I would feel so very satisfied
But here I am in this big old city
Stone and concrete ain't so pretty
I'm not one to feel self-pity
I just want to rescue my soul
I just want to rescue my soul
But here I am in this big old city
Stone and concrete ain't to pretty
I'm not one to feel self-pity
I just want to rescue my soul
I just want to rescue my soul
I always thought that I could be a cowboy
