That Was Then and This is Now

It wasn't easy then and now it's not so hard
We used to work at it, now we're playing in the yard
Everybody finds their own way to look back
It's hard to separate the fiction from the fact
So how it was, is probably somewhere in between
The things that really happened and what we'd rather dream

But we could build it up and we could tear it down
We were right when we were wrong
Nothing last that long

---Chorus---
Cuz, that was then and this is how we do it now
Everything is different, but we're still the same somehow
Even though it's upside down, the wheels go 'round and 'round
Yesterday's beyond what time allows
That was then and this is now
---------------------
We never had enough, we always wanted more
We were gonna leave our mark, we were gonna change the world
We used to move so fast, that time was left behind
Day to day & by and by now, time is hard to find
So when we stop to think on what has come to pass
Do we let it fill our hearts or kick us in the ass

Cause, we can build it up or we can tear it down
Or we can do what history does
Leave it as it was

--Repeat Chorus--

-Bridge-
Bear in mind what came before us
Believe in wonders yet to come
Everything is here or there
----
-Repeat Chorus-

Good story, nice solid melody, good vocals and harmony and strong hook. Very nice musical arrangement.

Great song, great sound, vocal spot on, female harmony was really just right, subtle but effective...I enjoyed your song ...you always do a great job.

Voice is powerful and the lyrics tell a story.

Excellent album cut. The tune is pleasant and engaging, and I do like songs that have philosophical lyrics that ponder the meaning of life. Instrumentation is perfect and fits the mood of the song. It's enjoyable and contemplative.

Clean production. Vocals are audible.

Great intro to the song, had me hooked straight away. Love the violin really fits inn and the guitar fills are perfect. This is really well produced with gereat arrangement and vocals. Great work, really enjoyed listening.

Really nice song, great music, great vocals, I like the lyrics

Nice recording, liking the fiddle. A well polished band.

Nice intro musically. The beat and the flow are very dance-able, leaning towards a country feel. There is some nice phrasing in the lyrics and the bridge had a nice feel.

Not bad really a good record it has a lot of potential - it has sort of a country flare to it good job.

very nice arrangement.i like the drumming too it really draws me in

Great sounding recording, love the hook

The lead vocals and the harmonies were very good. This song had a good rhythm. I liked the violin in this song. The guitar tones were really nice. I like this song keep it up!!!

I see this as more of a country or southern rock song rather than a folk song. You have a very strong and deep voice, perfect for country songs. You had a good range and it was sang well. You had a memorable hook, it was catchy and fun. I liked the classic beat behind it. Nice story type song that fits country well.

Very well recorded, instrumentation is very very good, every part has it's space and is clear and focused. Harmony is well done and both voices strong. The bridge to last chorus, transitions and makes you anticipate the chorus, love it. In some places the verses could be streamlined to eliminate a few words as the lead singers strength is lost on short phrases, yet in any notes that carry, the male voice has a ton of strength and conviction.

good folk rock track, really liked the violin and the style of the track. enjoyable real track, also liked the theme .

The song had me tapping my foot. Nice rhythm. I'm not a songwriter, only a manager, so I can't give specific song lingo, but I like the song.

decent instrumentation. good lyrics.

Lovely dreamy intro. The song reminds me of early Dire Straits. There are some lovely guitar licks and the violin works well. Nice backing vocal under the lead vocal.

Very Interesting and unique sound. I really like the chorus parts, especially the harmonies. It's a pretty good hook in that chorus.
