Story Behind The Song
Wrote it years ago when George Jones and Tammy Wynette divorced. Had given a cassette tape of the song to George Jones' road man at an Oklahoma City venue. He was to present it to George when he arrived. Never happened because that night's performance was cancelled. No-show Jones was drunk in Alabama.

Lyrics
Alone here tonight in this dim barroom light,
trying to figure why I sit alone here tonight.
I sit here wondering why my true loved one has gone.
Why did she leave me I feel so alone.
In the bottom of my glass, the answer there I found.
Looking back at me is the reflection of a clown.
Now, I can see my life in the past.
The way that I was a true love could not last.
For I cheated and I lied, and I did my love wrong.
Now, I can see why my loved one has gone.
In the bottom of my glass, the answer there I found.
Looking back at me is the reflection of a clown.
(Modulate)
A clown who could not see what love should really be.
A clown who would not listen to his loved one beg and plea.
A clown who truly felt that his loved one would stay.
A clown who did not know why his love left that day.
In the bottom of my glass, the answer there I found.
Looking back at me is the reflection of a clown.
Yes, looking back at me.... is the reflection of a clownnnnnnnn
hu - hu - hunnnnnn.... hu - hu - hunnnnnnnnnn.
