Story Behind The Song
This is not autobiographical. It was just a song that came to me first as a verse and then slowly sort of wrote itself. Paul found a few of the magic chords in the Bridge.
Song Description
This is a beautiful ballad that builds to soaring climax. A chorus that is both haunting, beautiful and catchy. This is a wonderful song for a singer looking for a lot of room to show off their voice and shower the listener with emotion. This one has a lot of radio potential.

Lyrics
Here I stand, on sacred ground
The place where we first kissed
And everywhere, all around
Reminders of what I miss
If memories fade away
Why are there so many here today
CHORUS
You could have been
So much more than just a memory
You could have been
Here, now with me
But you let an ounce of doubt
Outweigh a ton of hope we had
You could have been here?
We always said, when hard times came
Our love would pull us through
But then they came and I guess you found
Tough was tougher than you knew
Still I don't hate you now
I only wish I could have gotten through somehow
CHORUS
You could have been
So much more than just a memory
You could have been
Here, now with me
But you let an ounce of doubt
Outweigh a ton of hope we had
You could have been here?
BRIDGE
Do ya ever think about those times
And do you hurt like me
And wonder babe if you had stayed
How different it might be
Have you tried somehow to find me
To beg me baby
"Try again... cause I don't wanna be...
What could have been"
SOLO
CHORUS
You could have been
So much more...
You could have been
Here, now with me
But you let an ounce of doubt
Outweigh a ton of hope we had
You could have been here?
You could have been
You could have been
You could have been here...
You could have been
You could have been
