Story Behind The Song
Subtle Shiver came about one cold, october morning (obviously) in 2002. My family lives on the river and in the morning in the summer I like to amble down "the hill" and sit by the water. As it gets colder in the autumn mornings i find myself walking only to the gate at the top of the hill and then only stepping outside for a "breath of fresh air" and then only looking out the window and deciding that its just too cold to go outside. But one morning in October I woke up really early and couldn't get back to sleep so I got my shoes on and went down to the river. When I was standing by the river I just felt the presence of God and I realized that the nature around us is such a gift from Him (...the leaves become a red carpet as I pass by...) because He delights in His children. I think that He was prompting me to look for His glory in all of His creation and as I looked around I listed in my head some everyday things we take for granted that give glory to God just by being. The song "All Things Bright and Beautiful" came to mind and I thought about the lifespan of a firefly or a wave and how every millisecond of it's exsistance is dedicated to glorifying God with all of its being. Anyways, the sun came up, I went inside, and when my fingers had thawed I wrote Subtle Shiver.

Lyrics
Subtle Shiver
As I walk through this field in the fall time
Leaves become a red carpet as I pass by
Don?t know why but the world?s in its prime right now
As I walk the prairie skies are vacant
Pick up stones the river hasn?t taken
The firefly that danced with the frost silently dies
I hear traces of old, familiar songs
The cold wind blowing helps to rush me along
And here I found you in your glory
On this cold, October morning
In this clearing by the river I felt a subtle shiver
I know you waited for me.
Every wave on the water, it is dancing
Looks as though summer never happened
The trees o?er my head sway and the sky starts to blaze
I never thought that you?d give to me a love song
Never saw it?s been here all along
I close my eyes to cover a tear that?s made it down my cheek and now I hear Your voice
?it speaks so soft and clear
?You see Me everywhere.?
I hear traces of old familiar songs?
