Lyrics

The Hare's Lament

On the first of November on a bright autumn day
to the hills of Dromina I chanced for to stray,
I was feeding on green grass, the cloves on yon ground
when my heart was set a beating by the bay of the hound.
Chorus
Musha right tally-ho, hark ye over hi ho
hark ye over cries the huntsmen
hark ye over hi ho x2

Well they hunted me up and they hunted me down
the bold huntsmen of Scotland, on the trails said the hound
Over highlands and lowlands, moorlands also
Over hedges and ditches, like the wind I did go

There was Rebel and Rabble that gave me a close brush
When they finally did find me it was in a rush bush
For better or worse, I know I must die,
But I do my endeavor, those hounds to defy
Chorus x 2

Now I must die, and I know not the crime
For the value of sixpence, I ne'er harmed mankind
I ne'er was brought up for to rob or to steal
Except for the droppings and the tops of green kale
Chorus x 2

Then up steps the huntsman, to end all my strife
Saying,"let the hare go give her play for her life,
be it far better, you kill Reynard the fox
who ate all your chickens and never got caught."
Chorus X 2

This is a great arrangement of a lovely song and well delivered story. It reminded me of the story of the Red Fox of Appin. Anyway back to the review. The opening passage is well thought out instrumentally and created a good atmosphere. I thought you told the story very well and kept the interest throughout. The vocal harmonies half way through were an additional bonus. As usual you sing with great passion and feeling and your delivery is first class.

Having Irish heritage, this wonderfully sweet and emotive track filled me with warm feelings of longing for my ancestral homeland, which I've had the pleasure of visiting several times. Fabulous instrumentation, vocals, lyrics, mixing. A terrific production. Nice job!

Wonderfully Clannadesque! And I love Moya Brennan. I've always believed she has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. So this is a definate thumbs up from me.

Nice rhythmic song with a Celtic flavour. Loved the opening instrumentation, the harp and synth sound great against the opening acoustic guitar. Great sounding flute. Good chorus melody which did grow on me after a couple of listens. Recording and mix sounds fine. Good job overall!

Weird song. the vocalist phrasing is strange. But I thought it kicked ass the more I listened. I love this song. Love the lyrics. The story telling and the production is really cool in their combination.

I would love to hear more!!

Not the type of music I generally listen to but was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed the song, the arrangement vocals and the quality of the playing is excellent.

Enjoyed listening to this song a whole lot. The music was absolutely beautiful. The vocals were sweetly song. Really liked the orchestratio, arrangement, and lyrics. The marketing potential for this song is very good.

Absolutely GREAT!!! This is a hit song!! The lyrics are great, the recording is very clean, harmonies are perfect. Nice flute line. Gives it a very nice Irish flavor.
