Story Behind The Song
This was written by my friend John during the time between his second and third deployment to Iraq. On a personal level, I found the song to be so moving. And musically, it feels so full of possibilities. This recording is just one of many "takes" on the song. As so often happens, John and I moved on to other songs and did not return to this one to edit the lyrics or the arrangement..... and so the song stands as is. For now.
I call this the "orchestra" arrangement.

On Your Feet

He led his boys out east
She took the kids west
She was haunted by the worst
He hoped for the best
She wrote him every day
He hardly wrote back
She held the kids and prayed
He led the attack
She was counting down the days
He was counting down the days
But the days were counting down
CHORUS
On your feet we're moving out
On your feet we're moving out
On your feet we're moving on
From here
He got used to the smell
Her will was tested
He learned to live in hell
She second guessed him
He never saw his fate
She saw it clearly
Falling down would he be late
He'd be early
She was counting down the days
He was counting down the days
But the days were counting down
CHORUS
He stood there on her porch
She just broke down
She'd never seen his face
She knew the news he brought
I was counting down the days
Kids were counting down the days
But the days were counting down
CHORUS x2
