What's Already Gone

Story Behind The Song

I needed another breakup song, so using the fairly new phrase "let's not ride it till the wheels come off", I introduced it as a catch phrase to start the writing of this new track.

Song Description

This song describes the difficulties of a relationship gone bad. With no hope of reconciliation, the man is saying to his partner that they should move on because their relationship is completely broken (glass reference) and unsalvageable. They cannot stay together for the future.

Lyrics

What's Already Gone:

Verse 1
When that light bulb turns on over your head, And hearts are now chandeliers, dangling by threads, no love left to tether when hearts collide, Let's bury the anger, there's nothing to hide.

Chorus
I said let's not ride it till the wheels come off, and let's not chew it till it's way too soft. Love breaks like glass, it shatters like stone, no chains can hold what's already gone.

Verse 2
Building bridges...but they're burning fast, Time's flying by but we're stuck in the past. This love doesn't simmer, it just turns stone cold, we're fooling ourselves with lies growin old...

Chorus
I said let's not ride it till the wheels come off, and let's not chew it till it's way too soft. Love breaks like glass, it shatters like stone, no chains can hold what's already gone.

Bridge
Do we struggle with love or let it die? If love is a gamble, the stakes are too high.
We stumble, we crash, we drown in the fight, no point in pretending that we'll get this right.

Solo

Verse 3
We're running reckless on a prayer so thin, no fixing the damage we're living in. It wasn't a race, cuz we lost it all; the tower we built, just let it fall.

Chorus
I said let's not ride it till the wheels come off, and let's not chew it till it's way too soft. Love breaks like glass, it shatters like stone, no chains can hold what's already gone, it's already gone.
