I was inspired to write this song after watching several TV programs that exposed the heartbreaking realities of drug and alcohol addiction in cities across America. The stories were deeply disturbing, filled with pain, loss, and a haunting sense of hopelessness or overdose. What struck me most was the way addiction strips away identity and dignity, leaving behind only shadows of the people who once were.
