Story Behind The Song
Lalita and I originally wrote this song back in 1996/7 when I had made a vow to write 100 songs in a year. This was one of the best. Lalita wrote the lyrics at a time when she was trapped by certain circumstances at home and this song is a reflection of her feelings of the situation and her longing to be free of it.

Lyrics
Lost like a child in a crowd,
Crying 'cause I cannot be found.
I close my eyes and I try to hope,
To drift away.
And now I am looking down,
To the upturned faces below.
I know they wait impatiently,
For me to come down.
To be free,
To be alone,
I know this world just passes by.
I never sleep,
I never dream,
I only sit and watch the sky.
And in this dark and lonely place,
I pull apart the flowers of dreams.
I close my eyes and I try to sleep,
To slip away.
And now I am looking down,
To the upturned faces that don't know me at all.
And now I step away,
I come down.
To be free,
To be alone,
I know this world just passes by.
I never sleep,
I never dream,
I only sit and watch the sky.
Watch the sky.
Floating down,
I watch the world,
Slip by,
I've fallen, I've fallen.
To be free,
To be alone,
I know this world just passes by.
I never sleep,
I never dream,
I only sit and watch the sky.
