Story Behind The Song
I have written a few songs now regarding the questioning of "religious" values. I have known people who simply take everything in the Bible, or from Church, completely at face value without any question. I also know others who are so cynical, they wouldn't believe if God Himself invited them to dinner. I guess I'm somewhere in the mix!

Lyrics
I Don't Believe In Promises
Lyrics and music c. Steve Waddington
Oh God, well it hurts me to
know I've lost my faith and I question all I know of You
So tell me one more time,
do I close my eyes and still try to keep an open mind?
The questions run too deep
The answers lie in the secrets that we keep
Now I Don't Believe In Promises
And I can't believe all the things You've said
Its a lie in the mind of the innocents...
You can walk and you can crawl,
you can learn too much and still not know a thing at all
Intense curiosity,
while it matters not to You, it means so much to me
A vision isn't shared
When You try to make me see what I know isn't there
Now I Don't Believe In Promises
And I can't believe in the things You've said
And I long for the sleep of the innocents (of the innocense...)
Why can't I just let it go...?
Oh God I'm in trouble too,
no one else can undestand, but I don't believe in You
And still it isn't clear,
if I don't believe, then why the hell am I still standing here?
And everything I've said
Just rolls around inside my empty head
Now I Don't Believe In Promises
And I can't believe what I just said
Its a lie in the mind of the innocents...
Now I Don't Believe In Promises
And I can't believe in the things You've said
Its a lie in the mind of the innocents...(of the innocense)
A lie in the mind of the innocents...
