Everyday Date

Story Behind The Song

"Everyday Date" was inspired by my relationship with a guy named Mike. He lives in New Jersey and I'm in Pennsylvania, so our relationship has meant navigating the distance--planning when we'll see each other, making the most of the time we have, and then having to say goodbye and return to separate lives in separate states. Being in a long-distance relationship made me realize that the things I wanted most weren't big romantic gestures. I wanted the ordinary things. Coffee in the morning. Dinner on a random Tuesday. Running errands together. Sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing. Being able to say, "I'll see you when I get home," instead of always figuring out when we could see each other next. That feeling became "Everyday Date." It's about reaching the point where visits and planned time together aren't enough anymore. You start imagining what it would be like to close the miles between you and stop having to schedule the simple moments other couples get to take for granted. At its heart, I didn't write this song because I wanted more dates with Mike. I wrote it because I wanted him to become my everyday date--the person who isn't just there for the special moments, but for all the ordinary ones in between. Sometimes the biggest dream you can have with someone you love is simply getting to share everyday life together.

Song Description

"Everyday Date" is a heartfelt Adult Contemporary song about the longing that comes with loving someone from a distance and dreaming of the day when that distance finally disappears. It captures the frustration of having a meaningful relationship measured in miles, phone calls, visits, and goodbyes, while wanting something much simpler: an ordinary life together. At its heart, the song is about wanting to close the gap--not for grand romantic gestures, but for the everyday moments that distance makes impossible. It's the desire to turn occasional time together into shared routines, ordinary mornings, familiar nights, and a love that no longer requires counting down to the next visit. "Everyday Date" celebrates the idea that when you truly love someone, the dream isn't always an extraordinary life--it's simply getting to make that person your everyday date.

Lyrics

Coffee's steaming on the nightstand ledge
You're a whisper on the digital edge
You say "Good morning" like you're in the room
And for a second, I forget the gloom.
You know my coffee order, know my favorite shirt
You know exactly how to heal where it hurts
You make me feel like the center of it all
But I'm still just leaning my head against a wall.

I've got your secrets, I've got your heart
I've got your promise when we're apart
But I'm tired of the "see you soon" and the "wait"
When I'd rather have you as my everyday date.

Because we've got the magic, we've got the spark
We've got the light that can handle the dark
You make me the center of your world, it's true
But I'm still coming home to a house without you.
We've got the "always," the "deep," and the "real"
But "here" is the one thing you can't make me feel
Yeah, we've got a lot, and the love is true
But I want it all in a life with you.

I need you for the nothing--the mundane and slow
The Tuesday night dinner, the "where did we go?"
You're present in spirit, you're there on the line
You notice the moment I'm not doing fine.
But there's a space on the sofa, a gap in the bed
Where I want your actual shoulder instead
No matter how much of your soul you give me
It's the "being together" that sets the rest free.

I don't want the highlights, I don't want the "best of"
I want the Monday mornings and the mess of
The life we're building on a screen and a wire
I'm ready to be close enough to feel the fire.

Everyday date... (Yeah, that's the dream)
You're the only person on my team.
I've got the "you and me,"
I just need the "where" and the "when."
Until I don't have to say goodbye again.
Yeah, I want it all.
I want it all in a life with you.
(I want it all)
With you.
