The song is about a fella who knows in his heart that he hasn't done or given enough in his life to get into heaven which is represented metaphorically by collecting stars in the sky. He decides to give all the good karma (the stars) to the love of his life so that she will have enough to make it to heaven, asking only for one thing, that he be granted just one day in heaven to know for a brief moment what it was like and share the bliss in the after life with his one and only true love... For a Day.
