Story Behind The Song
My wife is always asking "where are my shoes" and then when she finds them, she only wears 'em for awhile before she has to take 'em off! So it's another song that she inspired and I wrote it about all kinds of things related to walking, traveling and footwear. It includes some reflections on life for good measure but was mostly written for a giggle and a wink. The album version goes into a bluesy, instrumental encore jam (similar to the outro on Toto's Rosanna).
Song Description
This song has everything to do with foot travel -- beaches, highways, mountain trails, even treading on water! It includes the mention of bouncing around from town to town - obviously the mindset of someone who tours alot. The bottom line of the song is a question we ask so often "where are my shoes?"

Lyrics
Shoeless
Words and Music by Michael Lewis
I've been Sleepless in Seattle
Hurricane Homeless in Baton Rouge
I was Clueless there in Cleveland but I'm usually
Shoeless in my living room
Somebody open the door I'm walking through
Somebody put a foot in my tracks
It might be beaches, hiways or mountain trails
but you'll never find me looking back
(chorus)
Can you find my shoes
I need to run away
Can you sing the Blues
For a world that's gone astray
Can you spare a dime
better yet, how 'bout the time
Cause I need more time to find my shoes
I cruised over to Santa Cruz
Got lost down in L.A.
Coast to coast back out to Boston
Autumn out in Austin on another day.
Your feet can follow the footprints in the sand
Your heart already knows the way
Your soul could use a good pair of sandals
So you won't be shoeless on your wedding day
Can you spare some time for your wedding day?
So help me... (chorus)
(Bridge) Without my shoes, things don't run right for me
Without my shoes I can't get a grip when I try to walk on the sea
without my shoes
It is possible my feet might freeze
without my shoes
I can't get around to spread my message of peace
