Story Behind The Song
It's Your Time to Shine was written as a motivational rocker with a real go-get-'em attitude. I had an opportunity to write and submit a song for a sports channel that was looking for a powerhouse rock song to use to add excitement to sports event broadcasting. I jumped on it and wrote this fun rocker, enjoying writing lyrics that would encourage the listener to pursue their dreams. "Knock it, knock it, knock it out of the park, it's your time to shine, ignite that spark!" As it happened, this occured just as the pandemic was getting started, and as the pandemic wore on, it became apparent that live sports were going to be curtailed somewhat and the brief was canceled. I laid "It's Your Time to Shine" aside and actually ended up forgetting about it for a while as I focused on the many other songs I had in progress. Time and the world moved on, but then years later, I rediscovered it while combing through my older work. I got excited, picked it up, dusted it off, and bought it to my producer! He loved it and jumped all over it. My producer and I were also fortunate to connect with Harry Waters - an awesome keyboard player (who happens to be the son of Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame) - who added a great Fender Rhodes track to kick it up a notch! Rock on and follow those dreams ya'll - I did!
