The Journey's End

Story Behind The Song

This is a couple that had a life filled with tragedy, only some of which can be captured in a 3 1/2 minute song. My song is an outpouring of personal grief over the loss of these two dear friens and a celebration of their lives. Mark committed suicide at

The Journey's End
Jim Gach Copyright 2006

Let me tell you about Mark and Eileen
Two people living the American dream.
They met at the local DSS
Social Workers in CPS.
Mark moved on to the VA
To help those who had served the USA.
They married and they moved to the Dutch Country,
A better place to raise a family.

Mark had a daughter from a previous life,
Her name is Amy, sweet and easy to like.
Soon they had twins, Patrick & Connor.
Taught them about respect and honor.
After a few years they moved up to Maine,
God?s country where the winters aren?t tame.
A big ice storm paralyzed the state.
No power for weeks what a fate.

You know fate wasn?t done with them yet,
It struck down Eileen with ALS.
They moved to the city of Brotherly Love,
Said a prayer, turned it over to God above.
Things got worse, Eileen she died.
Mark gave a eulogy, we all cried.
We bowed our heads and we said amen,
As Patrick and Connor went from boys to men.

Mark went North, he was a bit wired,
To be with friends he?d acquired,
While living in Maine for all those years.
I guess the friends couldn?t stem the tears?
Cause on a cold winter's night during Advent,
Mark hung himself, thinking his life was spent.
We wept and wondered what we could have done
As we filed into that church one by one.

This seemed a better world while they were alive,
We pick up the pieces, those who survive.
Their journey's pver on this spinning coil,
They live on in our memories still.

Let me tell you about Mark and Eileen
Two people living the American dream.
The only thing that gives me solace my friend
Is to know their together once again.
And the only thing that gives me solace my friend
Is to know they've reached the journey's end..

Spoken: I Miss you guys.
