Story Behind The Song
Gary played in a soul band in the late 1960's for two years and it was a lot of fun. The phrase "Yankin' My Chain" came to mind one day, and the music and lyrics just fit together perfectly. In 2011 Gary wrote a musical called Karaoke Nights and wanted to include songs of various eras and generations and chose this as representative of the 1960's soul type songs.
Song Description
Yankin' My Chain is reminiscent of the great soul songs of the late 1960's and early 1970's, like Mustang Sally or Walkin' The Dog.

Lyrics
Yankin' My Chain
Verse 1
You say you're leavin' and then you don't.
You say you're willin' and then you won't.
Then, you come on like a railroad train.
You know somethin'? You're yankin' my chain.
Chorus
Yankin' my chain.
You're just yankin' my chain.
You're playin' head trips. You're messin' with my brain.
You know somethin'? You're yankin' my chain.
Verse 2
When I decide it's time to give up,
you're awful sweet like a buttercup.
Then I make my moves and you start to act strange.
Come on baby, you're yankin' my change.
Chorus
Yankin' my chain.
You're just yankin' my chain.
You're playin' head trips. You're messin' with my brain.
You know somethin'? You're yankin' my chain.
Bridge
You snap your fingers, you think I'll rollover.
You treat me like a dog, you call me rover.
You take my money, then ask for the change.
Why do I let you keep yankin' my chain?
Chorus
Yankin' my chain.
You're just yankin' my chain.
You're playin' head trips. You're messin' with my brain.
You know somethin'? You're yankin' my chain.
Tag (spoken?) and fade out
Yankin' my chain.
You're just yankin' my chain.
Shakin' my brain, just yankin' my chain.
Yankin' my chain. Just yankin' my chain.
