Story Behind The Song
This is the second song I wrote, back in the 1970's. I had just broken up with my second wife and was taking some time off driving to Logan, Utah to visit my brother. While driving, these songs started coming into my head.
Song Description
This song is a slow dance with a 12/8 triplet feel to the beat. It's in the style of a Ray Price hit. It's a song where the singer is encouraging someone who's heart has been broken by a bad love affair to try again, that there's hope for a better love next time.

Lyrics
Don't Be Afraid
Verse 1
Don't be afraid it only hurts for a while.
Don't be sad. Pretty soon you'll learn to smile.
Remember the rain lasts only a time.
A tear. A frown and then a sigh.
And afterwards the sun starts to shine,
And someday the rainbow you'll find.
Verse 2
Don't be afraid though it's, "Goodbye," and he's gone.
Pretty soon the nights won't all be long.
There'll be someone who'll make you feel good again.
He'll be a great guy, tender and then,
A kiss, a hug will make you feel aglow
And your new love will start to grow.
Chorus
When it doesn't work out you may think it's terrible
But to fit a round peg into a square is impossible.
Keep on searching till you come to the end.
When you stumble pick yourself up again.
Verse 3
Don't be afraid though he burned you well.
Before too long the nights won't feel like hell.
He's been hurt like you so treat him carefully.
When he finds that you're true he'll love you faithfully
When you are together and your plans have all been made,
It will last forever if you just...
Don't be afraid.
