Story Behind The Song
This is a literally true story. It happened to my chiropractor (and good friend). I didn't know her when it happened, but she told me the story and showed me the video of the wedding dress hung on a pole in the yard behind the wedding reception location. They doused it with kerosene and burned it to the ground. So if that's not a country hook, I never heard one.
Song Description
He called off the wedding on its near-eve and fled town with another woman. What a cad! She, undaunted, held the wedding reception anyway. Everyone had a few (or a lot of) drinks. They erected a pole in the backyard of the reception location, hung the expensive wedding dress on it, poured kerosene on it, and burned it up while she cleansed her soul and forgot his name.

Lyrics
VERSE
You said you loved me; our limit was the sky
We got engaged, so I went out to buy
A weddin' dress
VERSE
We planned it all; it was gonna be the best
But then you had the gall to find somebody else
Oh, what a mess
First PRE-CHORUS
I want to burn you, but I'll settle for less
It'll be a hot night; I'll just burn the weddin' dress
It'll be a party
CHORUS
(Oh) It's a weddin' party; everything's just fine
It's a weddin' party; just not the normal kind
As that dress went up in flames
I cleansed my soul; I forgot your name
It's a weddin' party
RIDE
Second PRE-CHORUS
I was burnin' love while that dress was burnin' up
Oh, what a sight to see, and it sure set me free
It's a weddin' party
Repeat CHORUS
RIDE
Repeat CHORUS (2x)
TAG
It's a weddin' party; it's a weddin' party; it's a weddin' party
