Lyrics

When Johnny met Evangeline
The sweetest face he'd ever seen
He swore he'd win her heart
She'd never be alone again
So he courted her all through the spring
And day by day her favour won
And promises he made
In front of family and God
The day they wed
Oh oh oh

It wasn't long, it wasn't well
till Johnny felt the heartless pull
Of other women, other towns
And all the roads he'd like to travel down and
One night dark and swift
Took all her money, then he left
A letter by the bed and
Something broke inside her when
Evangeline read
Oh oh oh

It said 'Love blows in and
Wraps around your heart,
It colors every thought
Warm as summer rain and
Fair as gold
But the wind it changes with the tide
It's icy fingers find their way inside
Leave your heart cold'
Oh oh oh

Evangeline, she wasn't done
She wouldn't take this
Lying down
Poor Johnny didn't know the girl was
Not as sweet as she was young
Before his new life could begin
Evangeline was on the train
And hidden in her skirts
She held her father's silver gun
In her cold hand
Oh oh oh

It wasn't hard to track him down
Outside the only bar in town
She waited in the shadows
Watching till the sun went down
Finally her chance had come
Johnny stumbled out alone
And like a cat she crept along
The dark and dusty road
And followed him home
Oh oh oh

Well you know love blows in
Wraps around your heart
It colors every thought
Warm as summer rain and
Fair as gold
But the wind it changes with the tide
It's icy fingers find their way inside
Leave your heart cold
Oh oh oh

Devil's got you
Toying with a tender-hearted girl
Oh oh
You're the devil's fool

Quietly she said his name
And Johnny saw Evangeline
A pistol in her hand and
In her eyes all mercy gone
Before he had a chance to run
She shot him with her silver gun
And as he fell she turned away
In his last moments Johnny heard her say
Oh oh oh

Well she said "Love blew in and
Wrapped around my heart
It colored every thought,
Warm as summer rain and
Fair as gold
But the wind it changed
Just like the tide
When I saw your love had died
It left my heart cold"
Oh oh oh

Great tune. Reminded me of a Quentin Tarantino western.

toe tappin groove, great lyrics, awesome hook.

...very cool "bandito" vibe to this song, awesome vocals, very cinematic presentation...conjures up great imagery of old wild west movies. really good execution of lead and back up vocals. nicely done!
