"Mother and Child" is an instrumental New Age Christmas song that was inspired by Mother Mary holding Baby Jesus for the first time. As depicted in the single's monochromatic artwork, the song quietly tells the story of Christmas through the color gray. The goal of this song was to blend calming, ambient sounds seamlessly with some unexpected elements inspired by some of the artist's favorite dark electronic songs. This unique sound was achieved while still keeping the integrity of beautiful spiritual music for the holiday season. This re-released debut single was originally written for a holiday church service, and would ultimately be the last song written by the artist for that church before moving away.
