Story Behind The Song
I was spending some time in Fredericksburg, TX back in 2007, and would find myself in Luckenbach just about every day jamming with the local musicians. They told me that Willie Nelson hung out there frequently, and I thought I'd write a song about drinking whiskey that sounded like a Nelson song. I'm hoping he'll hear it and want to record it one day.
Song Description
A man sings about his mother, who died an alcoholic. He remembers that she told him that whiskey is his daddy and trouble is his family name. He is a musician, and tells about some of the things he's seen in his travels that are the results of whiskey drinking.

She drank . . . . til the day that she died
But, I know she's . . . in hea-ven . . . 'cause old . . . No. 7
Is the ri-ver . . . where she was bap-tized
She named . . . me Jim-my . . . but she called . . . me Son-ny
"Be-cause," she said, "You're dad-dy's . . . Jim Beam
Then she told me sad-ly, . . . "Whis-key's your dad-dy,
And trou-ble's . . . your fami - ly name."
Chorus
Whis-key's my daddy . . . and trou-ble's my name
Hear-tache and mis'ry . . . run through my veins
Jim, Jack . . . and Johnny . . . are my next of kin
'Cause whis-key's my daddy . . . and trou-ble's my fami - ly name.
2.
Now, I've made . . . a liv-in' . . . just play-in' . . . and sing-in'
From Phoe-nix . . . to old San An-tone
I've thrilled . . . the hand-fuls . . . from Lu-ken-bach . . . to Nash-ville
Fred-ericks-burg . . . on back to . . . Je-rome
I've watched . . . the whis-key . . . make ug-ly . . . girls pret-ty
And make pret-ty girls . . . look just like hell
It does . . . me proud . . . when a cow-boy . . . gets loud
My dad-dy . . . sure does his . . . job well To Chorus

Whis-key's my daddy . . . and trou-ble's my name
Hear-tache and mis'ry . . . run through my veins
Jim, Jack . . . and Johnny . . . are my next of kin
