Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song while I was traveling with a Christian band in the spring of 2003. Penny and I had just fallen in love before I left for this short tour, and as the guys and I made our way through New Mexico, I called her every night and found comfort
Song Description
Traveling across country, lonliness takes over. This musician finds himself going crazy with homesickness, but mostly from missing his love. He finds comfort in the memories they've made, finding that thinking of her brings him home.

Lyrics
1.
Early Sunday mornin' . . . I saw the sun comin' up
I watched it change a Kansas wheat field from gray to gold
Late Monday evenin' . . . I had some coffee with the boys
On a run-down Dallas stage . . . after the show
Sometimes I get so lonely . . . livin' life on the road
Tryin' to make a livin' . . . chasin' the moon
But when I think I'm goin' crazy . . . I lay back and close my eyes
And I'm there . . . right back home with you
Chorus
Well, I can see the porch light burnin' . . . at the end of the lane
I can see the smoke from the chimney . . . curlin' up through the rain
I can hear the sound of music . . . driftin' through the front room screen
I can see you smilin' and a-wavin' . . . like an angel in my dream
It doesn't matter how far I roam
I think of you . . . when I want to go home
(2nd X to Bridge)
(3rd X to Tag)
2.
Spendin' time together . . . gentle whispers in the night
Holdin' you close by the light of a candle flame
Girl, I just can't stand it . . . you know I need to be with you
Instead of here . . . on this bus, callin' out your name.
(To Chorus)
Bridge
Goin' home . . . . home . . . . . . .
(Modulate and repeat Chorus)
Tag
It doesn't matter how far I roam
I think of you . . . and I'm al . . . ready home.
