Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song while working an insufferable job. I no longer have that job. I actually got fired because someone overheard me complaining. It was a relief & also Hilarious! This song is also a nod to Frank Zappa's "Only In It For The Money." Note the classic Zappa style rhyme of noses & goeses.
Song Description
This is another piece from the concept CD "Partially Domesticated Amazon: Exposed!" The heroine is expressing her dissatisfaction with the lack of genuine people in her professional environment, circle of superiors and contemporaries.

Lyrics
LYRICS: She wiggled her toes and walked out the door. "Sweet Lady," she prayed "Promise me no more will I have to come here and try to pretend to like what you're doin' to win your approval"
(chorus) We're all friends here, try to pretend. You're not in it for the money, try to pretend. Little Buddha couldn't tell a lie, try to pretend. You're not in it for the money and we're all friends here.
They pick their opinions like they pick their noses. So the boss man says "Down!" and everybody goeses. With a twist of self-righteous, secret teller's pose, just another buzzard, circling the road.
(chorus)
(bridge) So you walk a narrow line. Wondering why it's never the right time for you. So you cry alone at night. I could tell you why but i still like you. I could tell you why but i still like you. I could tell you why but your answers are inside.
(chorus)
