Country Roads

Story Behind The Song

Amanda felt the call to re-imagine this John Denver classic as she was inspired during the period of time where the world shut down due to the pandemic. She had spent creative time in her studio during that period and the arrangement and style of this rendition came very organically and naturally. The song would take on an elevated energy and beauty after preparing with her band to play the song at a local music festival. Amanda knew at that moment that someday she would plan to record the song and release it as a single!

Song Description

Amanda Hagel's "Country Roads" is a one-of-a-kind release, a beautifully haunting and soulful rendition of a John Denver classic. For this song, Amanda teamed up with producer Hal Schrenk at Big Bang Studios along with an incredible cast of musicians, to re-imagine Take me Home, Country Roads like it's never been experienced before. Amanda has become known for her remakes of iconic songs, having released a full compilation album titled "Collection of Covers" back in 2019 that included songs such as Deana Carter's Strawberry Wine, Martina McBride's Anyway & Juice Newton's Queen of Hearts to name a few. The inspiration to remake Country Roads came after a moment of studio magic at a rehearsal for a folk festival performance which left Amanda and her musicians speechless after playing the song as a band for the first time. As an artist, Amanda bases her creative direction on the promptings of the heart with the pure intention that music is not just meant to be heard, but to be felt. Her rendition of Country Roads will take its' listeners on a musical journey transforming the poetic lyrics and beautiful melody of the song to an even deeper and more meaningful place.

Lyrics

Country Roads (Lyrics)

Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Country roads, take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mamma, take me home, country roads

All my memories gather round her, miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mamma, take me home, country roads

I hear her voice in the morning hour, she calls me, the radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving down the road I get a feeling that I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home to the place oohhhh I belong ohhh
West Virginia, mountain mamma, take me home, country roads

Take me home.....
