Rachel Mittler's Bio
Rachel began playing both the violin and piano by ear at a young age. Although fond of the violin, she found herself constantly at the piano, and began taking formal lessons. Singing became a passion in school, and she performed at school functions and in community musical theater.
She studied vocal performance and piano in college, and graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Music. While taking a music composition course, the professor encouraged her to continue composing to find her songwriting voice. She decided to take his advice, and her songs have evolved through several genres--Adult Contemporary, Blues, Alternative, and Electronica.
After college graduation in 2004, she continued her studies at the well-known Recording Workshop in Southern Ohio. After receiving her certificate of completion, The Workshop offered her an internship, and then a teaching position. While she enjoys teaching the science and the art of music production and audio engineering, she finds that the creative atmosphere of The Workshop inspires her to continue writing and recording her own material. In June of 2009, Rachel became a board member of F.A.V.E. International (Female Audio Visual Executives) with the hopes of welcoming other women into the commercial music market. She cites her musical influences from a broad range of genres from Classical to Alternative. Influences include Debussy, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Carole King, Frank Zappa, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Ween, They Might Be Giants, Imogen Heap, and most recently, Bob Dylan.
