As their chemistry grows, those boundries have started to give way, however, and Piper now often contributes to some production while Chord has started to experiment with lyrics and his vocals.

In early 2002, Piper and Chord first met when she responded to an ad placed in the paper looking for female vocalists. The two met, sat down and wrote and recorded the song "One by One" in a matter of minutes! It was orginally supposed to be used as a Chord single/vinyl release, but the chemistry between the two was so intense they decided to form a group.

What sets Misfilter apart from other electronic music acts? The fact that we consider ourselves more than 'just' a 'techno band'. Piper has sang alternative rock for years, performing at local venues with several different bands and she plays the piano. Chord has been a DJ for years but also has a long history in the urban hip-hop community (using the alias Copatone) as a rapper and well respected producer. Both have been musicians since their childhoods and thus have a huge appreciation for all music, beyond just what they make.
