When she was studying French in Paris, McMillan bought a front row ticket to see Bob Dylan at the Rex Theatre. As she tells it, since she was the only girl in the front row and knew all the words to his songs, Dylan noticed her. And when he sang the lyric, “Are you too good for me, or am I too good for you?,” he winked.
Melanie took that wink as a good omen--a sort of "go ahead" to pursue her dream of playing music professionally.
