Rich textures created by the quintet have been described as “Plush Lonesome Western Blues.” Attracting a listener base whose musical taste ebrace the roots, Majors Junction produces a diverse meld of country honky-tonk blues with folk undertones and hints of bluegrass, rock & roll, and reggae. It’s a unique sound that celebrates individuality and hard work, two qualities the band shares with its home town of Chicago.

The band came together in the fall of 2002 to elaborate on a recording project of award winning singer/songwriter's, Mike Mulcahy and Marc Johns. Johns continues to contribute to Majors Junction but has passed the lead guitar role on to the country pickin' of Jay Septoski. They, along with singer Heather O’Brien, drummer Colin Williams and bass guitarist Michael Duplessis create a unique brand of roots music that will keep your toe tapping.

Majors Junction can be regularly seen and heard around Chicago playing clubs like Martyrs’ and the Kinetic Playground as well as honky tonks and bowling alleys like Lincoln Square Lanes and The Horseshoe. MJ also performs at festivals like the Taste of Chicago and Greeley Stampede in Colorado.

Their recently completed debut CD, A Desert Oasis encompasses a stand alone style. With tracks like Seven Miles, Damn Neil, Urban Hippy Girl and Through Chicago as illustrators, the disc tells an adventurous story about life, love, death, mental struggles and triumphs. Plus, songs like Brighter Day, 4 O’clock Road, Wasted Time and Downtown Sin make you want to put the top down on your ’72 Eldorado and cruise a stretch of road that hasn’t been touched in a while.

A recent review dubbed catching a Majors Junction show as, “A lot like robbing a Louisville bank, then escaping on a Harley through the back hills of Kentucky." It went on to note, "Audiences in both a beat joint in San Francisco or a Broadway bar in Nashville would tip their hat to Majors Junctions' fun-loving vibe – a vibe that could run away straight from Chicago all the way to Folsom Prison."

Melding organs, horns, fiddles, banjos, mandolins and working with some of the best musicians in Chicago Majors Junction will soon complete its sophomore release "Confluence" scheduled for release late summer.

Majors Junction A Definition

As you approach Majors Junction at sunset you can see the hazy desert stretch for miles in every direction; 3 U.S. Highways meet here where the neon beer lights glow under the pink sky. The absence of company is obvious, you are isolated here. It is a place where the laws of the old west are still alive, visitors are welcome but trouble is met with the barrel of a gun.

The only standing structure for 30 miles in every direction is this bar in the Nevada desert, you push open the doors to discover a place where weary travelers have sat for many a beer and whiskey. You hear the old juke box in the corner playing an old country waltz and the slot machines chiming in time. A lone bartender awaits his orders, leaning your way with his straight arms firmly placed where you can see them. The one patron sits at the end of the bar and glances at you for a moment through his glass and then squares back up to the bar.

With its population of 2 people and a dog named dog, Majors Junction symbolizes the stand alone maverick qualities of the band that shares its name. Compromising for no one Majors Junction utilizes its unique song writing and imagery to take you places you have never been. The place is real, the music is real.
