M1 a.k.a Matt DiMaria is definitively one of Canada's electronic music pioneers. M1 began his career as a DJ in the eighties spinning hip-hop and Dance music. Saving his winnings from local DJ gigs and battles to buy recording gear to pursue his own music. M1 was crowned best DJ in Toronto in 1989 after he captured first place in a Toronto wide battle.
1991: M1's first and most notorious record "Feel The Drums" on NYC label Emotive gets released and becomes a huge hit. "Feel The Drums" later becomes a classic and is featured on many classic house compilations. “Electronic Funk” was also a big hit for M1. The video was in rotation on MTV Europe and went to number one on the club charts in Canada
Most recently M1’s music has been featured in the television series Mutant X. Twenty one tracks were used in all including the very first episode were M1’s track was used for a whopping four minutes of the opening seen!
M1 has the distinction of appearing on every major label!
